Finally: Life's a combination of salty and sweet, and defeated D.A. Terence Hallinan had reason to rejoice last weekend when his son, Brendan, married Maira Joaquin at the Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu. The entertainment included Polynesian and Filipino dancers, and the guests included the groom's former University of Hawaii football teammates.
Dr. Gene Schoenfeld, there for the wedding, wound up paying a call on Hunter S. Thompson, who was briefly hospitalized after slipping in a hotel bathroom and fracturing his left leg in two places. Thompson was in Hawaii covering the Honolulu Marathon for ESPN, which he never got to watch. Schoenfeld said in the 31 years he'd known Thompson, he'd "never before seen him heavily medicated on prescribed drugs.''
